ACSS

ACSS is a type of overhead conductor designed to operate continuously at higher temperatures (up to 250°C) without losing strength or experiencing excessive sag. It is similar in structure to ACSR but uses fully annealed aluminium, which remains stable under high thermal conditions. Unlike ACSR, the steel core carries all mechanical tension in ACSS, allowing the aluminium to focus solely on conducting electricity. It can carry significantly more current than ACSR of the same size with reduced risk of aeolian vibrations under wind exposure (better self-damping). These conductors are available with round wires (RW) or with trapezoidal wire (TW) design to further reduce diameter and improve compactness.
