Guarantors of energy infrastructures, transmission system operators (TSOs) and distribution network operators (DNOs) are actively expanding and upgrading their power grids. The goal is to increase networks capacity and responsiveness to new patterns of electricity production and consumption. These major upgrades involve the installation and replacement of thousands of kilometers of overhead lines (OHL) with new generations of conductors.
A key element is to better integrate renewable energy sources by reducing connection times, mitigating congestion and curtailment costs, while improving grid efficiency and reliability. The challenge is also to anticipate consequences of climate change and harsher weather events.
Nexans supports this strategic effort by designing and manufacturing overhead line conductors tailored to the specific requirements of each project.
“ With growing renewable energy sources, cross-border interconnections and changing electricity consumption patterns, power grids must evolve to ensure secured energy supply. ”

Successful upgrading of power grids requires thorough selection of appropriate overhead conductor technologies. This is where Nexans Benelux, a major player in the design and manufacturing of overhead line conductors for over 50 years, brings value to your projects.
From the invention of Z-shaped wires to reduce drag coefficient, to latest innovations in advanced conductors, Nexans has established itself as a trusted supplier of overhead line conductors to TSO, DNOs and EPCs, by providing innovative, reliable and custom-fit solutions.
Conductors tailored to your project's requirements
From standard conductors to most advanced high-temperature low sag (HTLS) and special long crossing or low noise designs, Nexans designs and manufactures customized conductors to provide you with a solution that's perfectly suited to your specific project. Our dedicated team of experts is with you every step of the way, from pre-studies and design selection to training and installation advice.
Nexans OHL conductors destinated to the European market are manufactured in Elouges, Belgium. Our conductors are made with aluminum rod, composite cores and steel wires sourced in Europe.
This secures the supply chain and reduces lead times while limiting scope 3 emissions from transportation. To further decrease the carbon footprint of overhead line conductors, Nexans OHL team promotes the selection of low-carbon aluminum and has qualified aluminum grades containing 10% of recycled aluminum.

Nexans overhead line conductors are manufactured according to the following standards:
- IEC 61089, IEC 62219, IEC 63559 (to be published)
- EN 50182, EN 50540, EN 62219
- ASTM B987, ASTM B856, ASTM B857
They are made in the Nexans production unit of Elouges, granted with the following certifications:
- ISO 9001
- ISO 14001
- ISO 45001
Nexans OHL team members contribute to standardization committees (IEC TC7, CENELEC TC7X) and to CIGRE B2 working group
