Paris, July 9, 2001 - Nexans, a world leader in the cable industry, has announced that installation of the latest state-of-the-art communications network has begun on 'The World' of ResidenSea, a new super luxurious cruise ship intended to be a floating home on the high seas.
A first of its kind, 'The World' of ResidenSea is a new concept in luxury accommodation, the passengers owning their own suites aboard the floating community will live on-board as it cruises around the globe.
Thanks to the state-of-the-art Cat.7 structured cabling being installed by Nexans, residents of the ship will be able to continue their normal working lives aboard the vessel with the very latest communications services - each suite will have telephone, fax, e-mail, internet and remote LAN access.
The installation includes a mix of structured cabling Cat.6 connectivity, Cat.7 for the residents suites and Cat.5e for the crew (totalling 65 km of copper cable), which connects to a fibre optic network. All of the cables are LSOH-FR (Low Smoke Zero Halogen - Flame-Retardant) to meet current safety regulations.
