Nexans Provides Grade 3 Residential Cabling Solution to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC25 Standards Committee

Bordeaux, France - February 19, 2004 - In the context of the upcoming annual meeting of the ISO/IEC JTC1/SC25 Committee in charge of standardizing cabling systems for the service, industry and residential sectors, to be held next week in Bordeaux, Nexans today announced that it has provided all cable products, connectors and cords needed to implement a new Grade 3 residential infrastructure as defined by the UTE C90483 guide.
In the forthcoming years, the Grade 3 infrastructure will replace the telecom infrastructure currently used in residential blocks and individual homes. With transmission performance up to 900MHz, this universal solution will allow both the reception of multiplexed TV channels over a DSL connection and the implementation of a Gigabit Ethernet LAN (operating at 1,000 megabits per second). In addition, this new solution will completely replace traditional coaxial TV cables, thus bringing added flexibility and opportunities in the building and layout of homes.
The solution consists of a Grade 3 "Home Cabling" Multimedia STP cable developed and manufactured by the Nexans plant at Fumay (Ardennes, France), and Cat.7 GG45 connectors designed and produced by the company at Buizingen (Belgium).
Such innovation now enables developers, architects, installers, designers and other professionals to design multimedia homes based on a universal, versatile infrastructure providing the user with multiple types of access. The UTE C90483 guide recommends to install three sockets in each room.
This solution has been developed in partnership with France Telecom, UTE, and the French company AMIS Ingénierie Réseau from Cestas which took care of installation and integration.
