Nexans completes cable contract for Beirut City Center, eco-friendly shopping mall in Lebanon

Nexans has delivered over 250 km of power, communications and fire resistant cables for Beirut City Centre

Paris, June 11, 2012 – Nexans, a worldwide expert in the cable industry, has completed a $1.6 million cable contract for Majid Al-Futtaim Properties to supply the power, communications and fire safety cables required for the construction of Beirut City Centre – a 158,000 sqm, $40 million shopping mall.

Nexans completes cable contract for Beirut City Center, eco-friendly shopping mall in the LebanonBeirut City Centre has been designed by Samir Khairallah & Partners (SKP), an architectural, planning and engineering firm, to meet the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system – which aims to provide building owners and operators with a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.

The building, located in the Hazmieh suburb of Beirut, has obtained the LEED Core Shell 2009 Silver Certificate. Nexans, through its subsidiary, Liban cables, has manufactured and supplied 170 km of power cable (low and medium voltage), 68 km of fire resistant cable (to be used in lighting and elevators) and 15 km of specialized communication cables.

Beirut City Centre, scheduled for opening later in 2012, comprises three basement level car park decks, three levels of retail, a rooftop leisure and entertainment area that includes a cinema and restaurants as well as a full service hypermarket and family entertainment centre.
